WORKSHOPS

Over the course of this project we had several different workshops ran to help us explore different ares of illustration, ideas and methods we may not have tried yet. They covered a range of subject matter from poster design, typography, characters, pattern making. I've written up the ones I found particularly helpful for this project.

TEXTURE & PATTERN: We had a workshop on texture and pattern making. This workshop had us source and create our own patterns and then take them forward and use them in making an illustration.

Sourced textures/patterns.
Firstly I sourced some textures and patterns I could find from around the studio, mostly old and scrap pieces of print processes and then I started to draw my own using ink.
My own textures/patterns.
Having sourced and made some textures and patterns, I now needed to take these forward and incorporate them into an illustration. Collage is a process I really quite enjoy but have little experience doing, this is something I would potentially like to take forward in this project so I will be exploring this with characters from the book.

This is a drawing I made of The Secret Garden protagonist for this experiment. Below are the experiments I made from this using the sourced patterns and textures I found in the studio.

POSTER MAKING: One of the first exercises in poster making was to design and make a film poster taking into account design and layout. We were given existing layouts to fit our designs into and I found this was an interesting way of working.

These are a few designs I did for the film 'Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban', the idea I wanted to take forward and make into a poster were my 'Frida' film ideas.

PINK SKY PUBLISHING: Another exercise we had was having a client Pink Sky Publishing come in and set us a live 1 day brief. The brief was to design a poster for a cherry harvest 'Fiesta De Picotas' in Spain in a style of late 50's film posters.
