The Key of the Garden
Summary: Having obsessed over the locked away garden for months, Mary, continues on her quest to find the entrance. With no help from Ben Weatherstaff (the gardener) Mary finds help in her little friend, the robin. Coming to a patch of earth, Mary finds a long forgotten key in the ground.
Characters: Mary Lennox, Ben Weatherstaff, the robin.
Setting: Inside the manor house, outside in the gardens.
Quote to work from: "...she saw something almost buried in the newly turned soil. It was something like a ring of rusty iron or brass, and when the robin flew up into a tree near by she put out her hand and picked the ring up. It was more than a ring, however; it was an old key which looked as if it had been buried a long time."
Research, references, inspiration: The research for this chapter title was quite simple. I wanted to look at old keys and their designs, from the description we know the top of the key to be rounded like a ring, so that is a starting point. Like in chapter 5, I wish this chapter title to be quite minimalistic in design, no characters, just focusing on the key.

Final artwork: This is the original drawing set up for colour separation for a silkscreen print, however, the screen print itself was unsuccessful and instead I did a collection of digital collages.
