Research, references, inspiration: There wasn't a quote I wanted to work from for this chapter title, instead, I wanted to expand on the design of the house itself I hinted at in the chapter title illustration for chapter 3, the house itself is an important part of the story and Mary spends so much time in it and outside of it I wanted to create a visual for this house. As the title describes, the house is "the strangest house anyone ever lived in" and I want this to reflect in the character and design of the building.
For content research I looked in Volumes 1 and 2 of Gardens Old and New by Leyland J, a book with images of various manor houses, castles, palaces, homes across the United Kingdom and their gardens. Volumes 1 and 2 cover the era the book is set in.

Roughs/sketches:
Final artwork: This is the final artwork for this chapter title. I really wanted the house to look strange and tried to achieve this through using colours you'd not typically find on a house but instead colours pulled from it's surrounding landscape (the moors) using purples and greens, I wanted the house to have character think I have achieved this in my design.
